Virginia City, Montana - 2021
We have had great fun in this saloon, high up in Montana over the years. The goal is always the same - to fill the frame with a smorgasbord of western archetypes. The bar girl should always stand out for her glamour and bad ass attitude, whereas the male clientele should hint at the impotence of cultural refinement in the mountains. The bar itself always delivers, with its generous ambient window light, the wagon wheel on the ceiling and its sense of depth. You would be hard pressed to find a better bar in which to capture this image in America.
Each year the village folk of Virginia City come out in great numbers to support and it does now seem a home away from home for us. We thank the community for its hospitality and spirit of collaboration.
In this series, the speed of the wolf’s movement down the bar was a challenge as we were working in suboptimal light conditions. But, as always, all it takes is one image and on this occasion that was indeed all that we got.
