Houston Llew is an artist of vitreous enameling, blending glass and copper to form luminescent works featuring a harmony of depictions and quotes that capture the meaningful moments of life. Each work is designed to tell a story. His works are all created by hand at the Houston Llew Studio in Atlanta by him and his team of apprentices, who create enameled art under his training, guidance, and design direction. Houston's preeminent works are called Spiritiles, found in significant collections in homes and galleries across North America.
One-of-a-kind is the perfect way to describe Houston Llew and his stamp on the world of art. Houston specializes in a field of enamel art of his own creation called “spiritiles,” which blends enameling and storytelling to create highly detailed handmade tiles. Each of Houston’s spiritiles captures a story, scene, or memory and brings them to life through enameled tiles. He weaves captivating colors and poignant quotes into every tile, adding incredible depth and nostalgia to every piece.
Houston started his enameling journey in 2008 when he began shadowing renowned enamelist Zingaro in his studio. This impactful experience opened up a whole new world of creative expression for Houston. He spent months upon months creating his unique path in the field of enamel wall art. Houston’s experimentation led to him creating his signature spiritiles, which are now cherished by art lovers across the United States.
