1872 : Artist Reception - George Hill

February 13, 2026
Immerse yourself in the spirit of Yellowstone through the bold, commanding vision of artist George Hill in his latest show 1872.
Opening Friday, February 13th at Courtney Collins Fine Art in Big Sky, MT, 5 pm to 7 pm1872 features all new, larger-than-life animal portraits—the artist’s homage to the wolves, bears, and bison that define the soul of America’s first national park. Hill’s most ambitious body of work yet in both scale and vision, each piece is rich with oil color and texture. The compositions are designed to both arrest and immerse the viewer with their bold yet simple arrangement. Powerful portraits of wolves in quiet intensity, bison standing like timeless sentinels and bears dominating the frame with strength and curiosity. These monumental canvases bring viewers eye-to-eye with Yellowstone’s most powerful and iconic inhabitants.
For the artist, Yellowstone embodies the spirit of the wild like few places do. Themes of the wild and the primitive are woven through Hill’s work like the braids of an untamed river. He believes their preservation is vital as their existence helps us reconnect with our primitive selves and the natural harmony of the world. He hopes his portraits will help elicit this consciousness within us all. Join us February 13th for an unforgettable celebration of wildlife and the enduring magic of Yellowstone.
